Bed-setting's procedure

This symbolises the good health, abundance of fortune and the off springs of the couples. This can be done before or after the hair-combing procedure.

Parents of the Groom will move the bridal bed slightly and red packets or “destiny charm”, also known as “Yuan Qian” or “Yuan Zi” in Mandarin, are placed at each corner as it symbolizes blessings of wealth and prosperity for the couple.

A young boy (normally a relative to the Groom-to-be) will be invited to jump and make merry on the bed. Peanuts, red dates, lotus seeds, 2 oranges, and other sweets are scattered on the bed to complete the bed installation procedure. Red papers bearing the Chinese character of “Xi” which means double happiness will be pasted onto cupboards, mirrors and doors, and each drawer of the tables and cupboards in the bedroom must contain a packet of “destiny charm”, a red packet or moneybag and some pine leaves for blessings and good luck.
