Betrothal's procedure

Betrothal also known as "Guo Da Li" is one of the important event in the Chinese Wedding, in fact without this the custom is considered invalid. This gesture has a meaning to prove the sincerity towards the marriage between the binding of two families and the promises of taking care of the bride. In the ancient China, the value of the betrothal gift also determines the financial credibility of the groom.

The date is 1st chosen by a professional Feng Shui consultant which is normally 1 to 3 weeks before the wedding day. The groom will prepare the betrothal gifts based on the dialets and requirements of both the family.

Items required:

  • Pin Jin (based on the negotiation of match-maker to the brides family)
  • Jewelleries (Si Dian Jin)- Teochew
  • Dry Seafood (Hai Wei)- Cantonese
  • Pig trotters ( Replaced by Pork can trotters)- Hokkien
  • Roast Pig
  • Oranges
  • Alcohol such as champagne and red wine
  • 2 pairs of Dragon and phoenix candles
  • 1 pair of Double happiness handkerchiefs
  • 8 types auspicious seeds and grain
